First Coast News Wins 6 Prestigious Murrow Awards; TV4 Cited for Overall Excellence and Spot News Reporting in Regional Small-Market Category

Jacksonville television stations took home a total of eight regional Edward R. Murrow Awards during recent competition.

First Coast News, WTLV/WJXX, won six awards, a record for its news team. Awards were given in continuing coverage, feature reporting, news documentary, news series, videography and writing categories.

The overall excellence and spot news coverage awards went to WJXT TV-4.

Regional winners are eligible for the national awards competition, which will be judged in early June. The national Edward R. Murrow Awards will be presented Oct. 17 at a dinner in New York City.

The Radio-Television News Directors Association has been honoring achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971.

The award to the First Coast News team for its continuing coverage resulted from three weeks of reports into the search for a missing mother and her child. After the mother's body was found, searchers unsuccessfully looked for the body of her 10-month-old son. …
