Betty Scott is, she'll readily admit, on the petite size. And this fact causes her no end of problems.

Betty, 74, was nominated by her daughter Susan Walton who asked her to help her mum.

She wrote: "Every time she goes shopping she seems to come back sorely disappointed at not finding anything decent to wear, everything being too big, too tight, too long or generally not suitable for her age. Can you help?"

Of course we can. Which is why Betty, from Washington, who is just 4ft 10in and has size two feet, found herself in the House of Fraser store in the MetroCentre.

The challenge? To find Betty three outfits and shoes to match.

House of Fraser is one of the only places that stocks size two shoes in styles which would be suitable for Betty. The Roland Cartier and Roberto Vianni ranges were the best and Betty managed to find five pairs she liked and which fit her.

We then moved on to the Minuet section for the outfits as it boasts a great petite range. First we looked at the matching suits with both trousers and skirts. After trying on a selection we decided on a printed flowery skirt and matching blouse. We paired this with an apple cropped fitted jacket and the cream shoes. An outfit perfect for going out to dinner and attending smart events.

Next we were looking for something more casual for shopping and days out. There is a large selection of linen at the moment and it is definitely the fabric of the season. We chose a gorgeous skirt in grey, which was slimming, and which we paired with a fitted cream blouse with printed detail.

For a final outfit we took advantage of the great selection of dresses available at House of Fraser. All the longer style dresses were too long for Betty, so we went for a shorter cocktail-style dress. After choosing a selection and taking them to the changing rooms, we settled on a little black number which looked gorgeous on Betty. …
