Jonathan Graham's first competitive outing of the season proved to be a memorable one as he defied testing conditions at Moortown to win the PGA North Region qualifier for the Glenmuir Club Professional Championship.

The 30-year-old head pro at Silloth on Solway in Cumbria was the only player in the field to break the par of 71 and led the 19 qualifiers into the finals of the pounds 78,000 tournament at Woodhall Spa on June 14-17.

There, he will not only get the chance to claim the pounds 10,000 winner's cheque but also to earn a place in the Great Britain and Ireland team to face the United States in the PGA Cup matches at Dublin's K Club later in the year.

"It was my first outing of the season and to win was absolutely amazing, said Graham after his round of 70.

"The wind was very tough and it was difficult to get your club selection right. It was a day for grinding out a score and apart from a double bogey at the seventh, I played pretty solidly all the way round. …
