Thousands of pounds worth of drugs were seized when police busted a Tyneside cannabis farm in a converted loft.

A series of problems in Burradon and Camperdown, in North Tyneside, has seen police in the area join forces with local residents to tackle crime.

Concerned locals have been keeping officers informed of those responsible for anti-social behaviour and criminal damage.

Now that has culminated in the latest drugs raid in the villages, where 31 mature cannabis plants were seized.

Insp Neil Simpson, based at Forest Hall, said: "We were acting on information and executed a search warrant in Burradon and found a cannabis farm.

"It comes in light of a public meeting with about 100 residents, who raised concerns.

"This case was down to some good community intelligence and 31 plants is a decent amount and would have been worth thousands.

"We are linking drug use in the area with anti-social behaviour and this is part of our continuing commitment to stamp it out. …
