My London DARYL HANNAH; the Actress Recommends People-Watching in Camden Market and Partying at Umbaba

Article excerpt

What was the last play you saw in London?

Stones In His Pockets at the Duke of York's Theatre about four years ago. It was hysterical. These two Irish guys played lots of different characters in the same movie.

What do you miss most when you are out of London?

My friends, including Amanda Holden, who live here.

What are your favourite home comforts?

My dog, Baxter, and my cat, Millie - because I didn't buy them, I found them; they were both strays.

What would you do if you were Mayor for a day?

I would ensure that every new building would be a green building, using recyclable materials, and all new cars would have to be really energy-efficient hybrids. I would encourage people to switch to solar power at home so they would have free energy from the sun. I would have an official holiday where everyone has to wear a costume.

What is your life philosophy?

That's a big question. Have you got all day?

How do you get around town?

I walk; otherwise I use public transport or ride a bike.

What have been your most memorable London meals?

At The Ivy or Blacks with good friends after a play in the West End.

Where do you live and why?

I live in the countryside near Los Angeles. I work so often that I like to feel like I'm on holiday when I'm at home.

How long have you lived there?

I've lived in my current home for three years. I also spend time in New York. I grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and I guess that's why I long for open spaces.

Where were the last three places you went on holiday?

In the past couple of years I've been to Italy, Mexico and Costa Rica.

I don't take many holidays because I am usually working.

What do you listen to on your iPod?

It depends on my mood - anything from Sinatra to the Beastie Boys and Razorlight.
