LAWRENCE DALLAGLIO today dismissed fears that his rugby career is over and vowed to be back for Wasps by October, despite having a metal plate and five screws inserted in his right leg in an Auckland hospital.

Dallaglio broke his leg and dislocated the right ankle in the 34-20 win over Bay of Plenty, the first match of the Lions tour of New Zealand, and underwent surgery yesterday.

After a visit from coach Sir Clive Woodward, Dallaglio was due to rejoin the squad today, walking with the aid of crutches.

The leg is in a plastic boot - not plaster - to aid a swift recovery. He will be allowed to fly home in 10 days.

The 32-year-old said: "I am under no illusions about the amount of hard work I am going to face to get fit for next season but I will be very disappointed if I am not back playing by October - so will the surgeon.

"Having conquered a knee ligament operation in 2001 and dealt with the rehab after that injury, it will be a massive help in getting back from this one. …
