Darius Will Participate in Voluntary Workouts

Safety Donovin Darius, who was fined for missing the Jaguars mandatory minicamp a week ago, has decided to join the team for the 14 voluntary organized team activities that start next week.

Team spokesman Dan Edwards said Tuesday that Darius started working out in the team's offseason conditioning program this week and will participate in the team's activities that run through June 22. Edwards said Darius will hold a news conference next Tuesday after the first workout.

"He felt it was time [to join his teammates]," Edwards said. "His approach is he's going to work with his teammates doing all the things his teammates are doing."

Darius was unhappy about getting the franchise tag, which will pay him $4.97 million this year, for the third consecutive year. He said he'd lost respect for the Jaguars and contacted reporters in both Minnesota and Miami, saying he wanted to play in those cities.

The franchise tag was guaranteed once he signed it, meaning Darius couldn't play for any other team if he wanted to collect the $4. …
