Malcolm Hodgson thought retirement at the age of 50 would be a wonderful thing.

It was - travelling the world for a year.

Then reality kicked in. He realised he would need to work part-time before he could live off his pensions.

And then he got another surprise - the 52-year-old's part-time job turned into a business and he is now looking to take on staff for Conservatory Cleaning Services before the end of the year.

"We had our conservatory before we started our travels and at the end of one trip I was just sat in the garden looking at it when I noticed it needed cleaning," said Malcolm.

"I made inquiries and found the window cleaner only cleaned the glass and not the uPVC so then I made further inquiries and the nearest conservatory cleaning company I could find was at Nottingham, who proved to be very helpful in advising me what equipment I needed."

So, with an initial investment of around pounds 7,000, Malcom sent off to New Zealand for specialist extending brushes and America for his non-caustic, non-solvent chemicals. …
