The mum of a toddler killed by his babysitter almost a year ago has told of her anguish that his brain still has not been returned to them.

Two-year-old Kyle Fisher died in hospital last July after Suzanne Holdsworth, 34, repeatedly battered his head against wooden banisters.

Holdsworth, of Millpool Close, Hartlepool, is now serving a life sentence after being found guilty of murder at Teesside Crown Court in April. But 11 months after Kyle's death, mum Clare, 20, of Hartlepool said she can't lay her cherished son to rest until she can bury his brain - removed during an autopsy, for vital tests prior to the trial.

"It's hard enough dealing with the grief of losing your child," she said.

"But then I had to wait four-and-a-half months to bury Kyle and even then it wasn't all of him - they've still got his brain.

"I didn't want to make the decision not to bury part of him but I had to."

Clare has already endured a funeral for her child and a memorial service to mark his third birthday. …
