Angels of Mercy Who Offer Hope of a Baby; Can You Get Pregnant If Nature or IVF Let You Down? Alex Hindhaugh Looks at the Claims of Some Far-Out Alternatives

Article excerpt

Byline: ALEX HINDHAUGH

DURING her lengthy quest to become pregnant, model and writer Normandie Keith has had bouts of IVF at the Lister Hospital, as well as seeking out alternative help.

Together with her friend Elle Macpherson, she even visited a complementary medical centre, the Violet Hill Studios in St John's Wood, for a guided meditation with reiki master and spiritual healer Debby Coles. They called on the power of "angels", which, in complementary circles, are seen as a personification of healing energy.

"We asked the archangels Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Raphael to come and stand around us and protect us and support us with their power and energy," Keith said. Clearly something worked, for she is now expecting her first child.

So if nature or mainstream medicine isn't working for you, what are the alternative fertility boosters you can try? We asked six top therapists for their tips ...

Debby Coles, reiki master and spiritual healer: "I try to put people into optimum health by clearing their energy systems and bringing them back into balance. This clears the way for a woman to try to become pregnant. You have to be careful when using the term 'angel'. What I am doing is calling on the purest form of energy to help people with whatever their problem is.

"There have been angels in every faith; it's nothing to do with Christianity. You could call this energy unconditional love, angels, or a pure force of nature - it's the same thing."

Rosanna Bickerton, leading reflexologist: "When you are thinking of trying for a baby, that's a good time to start reflexology (the ancient art of healing by working pressure points on the feet which correspond to particular organs in the body).

"At the preconception stage, you can have either Chinese or Western reflexology; Chinese is more stimulating, whereas the Western version is generally relaxing. If a couple is having fertility problems, I will recommend that they both have reflexology. For the woman, it helps eliminate toxins from the body while stimulating the circulation and the immune system; overall, it balances the body and puts it in the best possible state for implantation."

Lilias Curtin, holistic therapist: "Mentally, women must make sure that they aren't self-sabotaging their efforts to get pregnant.

Many women who used to smoke or drink subconsciously feel unfit to be mothers. I can help people with Autonomic Response Testing, a new method of testing your body's reaction to different substances and different ideas, to find out if there is a problem either with something you are eating, in your home environment, or in your mindset. …
