Owen Goal Is for Hylton to Make Progress

Hylton stalwart Owen Williamson reckons the enforced move from the Durham Coast League has been the best thing to have happened to Hylton and that the club is "over the moon" at the reception given by the 12 other sides.

"It's no secret that our application to re-join the Coast League was turned down after we made an unsuccessful attempt to join the Foster's Durham Senior League," said Williamson.

"At the time, we did not know where to turn, but the County League took us in and we are delighted with the reception given to us.

"The standard of play is very good. Sides are competitive but that's the way we like it, and the 45 overs an innings format is more suited to our game than the time cricket we played in the Coast League."

Hylton, though, are the first to admit they are not pulling up any trees, although they are comfortably placed in mid-table.

Williamson added: "We have got to get used to it and the teams we play, but we have not suffered a big defeat and have given any one of our opponents a good game. …
