Olympian catering required, too IF BRITAIN'S bid to host the Olympics is successful on Wednesday it will provide a huge employment boost.

More than 350,000 visitors would be expected here during Olympic fortnight - a figure that, according to a survey by People 1st, the Sector Skills Council for the hospitality industry, would require a large increase in the capital's skilled workforce. People 1st hopes foundation degrees, for example those offered in Hospitality and Management, will play a central role in filling the potential skills gap.

Too many duvet days for comfort THE UK is becoming a nation of skivers, according to a recent poll conducted by Manchester-based employment-law firm Peninsula. Ninety-three per cent of employers questioned said they found it increasingly difficult to certify genuine reasons for absence. Of the 2,127 employees questioned, 89 per cent admitted to taking unauthorised time off this year, an increase of 27 per cent since 1998. …
