Reading boss Steve Coppell described Leroy Lita as "the biggest signing in the club's history" after sealing a pounds 1m deal for the Bristol City striker.

The England Under-21 international agreed terms on a three-year contract earlier in the week and passed a medical yesterday at the Madejski Stadium, with Reading paying a club-record fee.

Lita, who scored on his England Under-21 debut against Holland in February, hit 29 goals for City last season.

* STOKE boss Johan Boskamp has suffered a major blow with the news that new signing Peter Sweeney is out for up to three months.

The 20-year-old, who joined from Millwall earlier this month, sustained what has been confirmed as a fracture in the base of his back during Sunday's 7-0 friendly win over Newcastle Town.

* LEEDS striker Rob Hulse has been ruled out of action for at least a fortnight after suffering ankle ligament damage.

Hulse was withdrawn during the first half of their 1-0 friendly defeat to FC Haugesund in Norway. …
