Northumberland suffered a penultimate ball heartache as they lost a see-saw Minor Counties eastern division match at Cambridgeshire by just two wickets, (writes Jeff Bowron).

There were only two balls left when league leaders Cambridgeshire edged home after Northumberland, who began the match in second place, had battled back with both bat and ball on an eventful final day.

But the county just fell short and century partnerships for the first and third wicket, both involving professional Simon Kellett, proved decisive at Fenners.

Team boss Bill Graham said: "It's a very disappointed dressing room because it was a big game and we fought back well on the third day."

All-rounder Stephen Humble was certainly unlucky to be on the losing side as he followed up his 6-84 in the first innings with a top-scoring 57 in the second.

North had began the last day on a precarious 127-5 but they again exploited their long batting line up to add 138 runs in 30. …
