Sales Herald Big Changes

Article excerpt

It's a busy time of year for farm machinery with many dealers reporting an upsurge in sales.

The increase over the past month is a clear indication that this autumn will see a change in the farming practices of many.

Tom Oates of George F White said: "We have noticed a huge difference from last year and are expecting a very busy autumn period. We already have instructions to undertake four sales in late September/early October and expect further instructions."

There has been a lull in market activity over the past year, caused by the new single payment scheme for subsidies.

Since May this year land transactions have been moving more freely, and this has led to an uptake in recent sales. New opportunities have also arisen in contract farming agreements, which has created a big demand for second hand machinery.

Tom said: "The one thing that has been extremely noticeable is that well maintained quality machinery is in excellent demand, worn out machinery is hard to shift. We are looking forward to a busy autumnal period starting with a sale at Hill House Farm, Coatham Mundeville, Darlington, which incorporates a dispersal from one farm and additional collective entries."
