Hartlepool boss Martin Scott was happy with his team's display as they racked up their third pre-season win at York City.

Pool routed the Minstermen 4-0 through first half goals from Thomas Butler, Gavin Strachan (penalty) and Eifion Williams, and a second half James Brown strike.

And while Scott continues to stress that match minutes are more important than results at this stage, he feels that Pool are moving in the right direction with the start of the new season looming.

"It was nice to score four goals and not concede again after keeping a clean sheet in Holland and last week against Boro," said Scott.

"It was a good workout and more realistic of what we are going to get in the first league game of the season against Bradford come Saturday week.

"I was pleased with the lads' performance, we were a bit sloppy in the first 10 minutes but improved after that."

New signing Darren Williams tasted his first 20 minutes in a Pool shirt, replacing the returning Hugh Robertson, and Scott added: "Some players are nearly there in terms of match fitness, while others need a bit more work. …
