Palace Reject [Pounds Sterling]7m Offer for Johnson; Jordan and Dowie Say 'No' to Everton

CRYSTAL PALACE have turned down a [pounds sterling]7million offer from Everton for Andy Johnson.

As reported in Standard Sport yesterday, Everton boss David Moyes was preparing to step up his interest in the striker and was at Selhurst Park last night to watch the player in action against Inter Milan.

But Palace chairman Simon Jordan and manager Iain Dowie have now rejected a firm offer from the Premiership club.

It is thought Everton will not return with an increased bid and have moved on to new targets.

Johnson is keen to leave relegated Palace because he fears his chances of making Sven-Goran Eriksson's World Cup squad will be undermined if he is not playing Premiership football.

The prospect of playing Champions League football with Everton this season would also appeal to him.

Jordan, however, is intent on keeping his star striker and has already rejected interest from Tottenham, Newcastle and West Ham this summer. …
