19 SEEK TO FILL VACANT 4TH CIRCUIT JUDGESHIP

Nineteen lawyers have applied for a vacant Duval County judgeship and will be interviewed Friday, July 29, by the 4th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission.

Deadline for applications was Thursday. The commission will select from three to six nominees to send to Gov. Jeb Bush by Aug. 12, Chairwoman Mary Bland Love said. The list of applicants includes four prosecutors, an assistant public defender and a City Hall lawyer.

Those applying are: Robert Aguilar, support enforcement hearing officer Fred Akel, A. Wellington Barlow, Assistant State Attorney Mark Borello, Tad Delegal, Assistant State Attorney Angela Dixon, Assistant Public Defender Shelley Eckels, Assistant State Attorney Mose Floyd, civil traffic infraction hearing officer Gary Joseph, Thomas Lobello, Assistant State Attorney Sheila Loizos, Assistant Florida Attorney General R. Lynn Lovejoy, Donald Matthews, city Assistant General Counsel Virginia Norton, Patricia Parker, Julie Taylor, senior Department of Children and Families attorney Jodi Seitlin, Joseph Vaughn and child support enforcement magistrate Leatrice Walton.

MAYPORT-BASED SAILORS JOIN EXERCISE NEAR COLOMBIA

Jacksonville sailors from a guided missile frigate and two helicopter detachments are among 2,000 mariners from six countries who began a two-week naval exercise off the coast of Colombia this week, the Navy announced.

The Mayport Naval Station-based USS Samuel B. Roberts and detachments from Helicopter Anti Submarine Squadron Light 42 and 48 are participating in UNITAS, the largest multinational naval exercise conducted in the U.S. Southern Command Region, the Navy said. The Miami-based Southern Command is responsible for South America and the Caribbean Sea.
