Big 12 Presidents OK Gator Bowl Proposal

The Gator Bowl conference affliations from 2007-2010 have been finalized with Friday's approval by the Big 12 presidents to a plan that involves that league, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big East Conference and Notre Dame.

Each year of the four-year contract, the Gator Bowl will match its first choice of an ACC team -- after the Bowl Championship Series selections -- against a non-BCS team from Big 12, the Big East or Notre Dame. The Gator Bowl must select a Big 12 team in two of the four years, and can bypass the Big East team in one of the remaining two years to select Notre Dame.

In the years when the Big 12 gets two teams in the BCS, the Gator Bowl will have the option of picking the next Big 12 team. In years when only the Big 12 champions goes to the the BCS, the Gator Bowl will pick after the Cotton Bowl.

KANSAS: WILLIAMS VIOLATED NCAA RULES WHILE COACH

Roy Williams violated NCAA rules as basketball coach at Kansas by approving payments to graduating players and others who had used up their eligibility, the school said Friday.

After conducting an internal review, the school said Williams -- now preparing for his third season at national champion North Carolina -- approved payments made by three representatives of the university's "athletics interests."

"Coach Williams and I discussed this matter some time in the past and will talk again after both of us have had a chance to review the report," North Carolina athletic director Dick Baddour said in statement issued Friday.

COURT: MAGAZINE NOT PROTECTED BY LAW IN SUIT

A federal appeals court ruled Friday that Alabama's shield law does not protect Sports Illustrated from having to identify a confidential source in a defamation suit by former University of Alabama football coach Mike Price.

But the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the anonymous source the magazine relied upon in an article about Price is "almost certainly" one of three women whose names have surfaced in the case.

The story quoted the source as saying Price had sex with two women in a hotel after getting drunk at a topless bar in Pensacola. Price has admitted having too much to drink but denied under oath the magazine's report about having sex. …
