JENNIFER KAVANAUGH put her flat up for sale almost a year ago and, despite a [pounds sterling]180,000 reduction in the price she was advised to ask for it, it is still on the market,

While buyers would once queue to purchase flats on the gated development near Wapping, she says even the number of viewings has been limited in recent months.

Mrs Kavanaugh, 65, a community psychiatric nurse, and her husband, John, bought the twobedroom property on Quay 430 for [pounds sterling]152,000 in 1991, taking advantage of a slump in the market.

But now they are the ones who may be feeling the effects of a downturn.

"It is one of the most desirable developments in the area. We thought if anything would sell, it would be here. So it does reflect the state of the market. It's a real drag obviously we want to realise the money we have on this. …
