NEW LONDON TERROR RAIDS; Police Seize Man at Flats Close to Home of Key Suspect

TWO more bomb suspects are being questioned today after raids by armed police.

Masked officers carrying sub-machineguns stormed a flat in Stockwell with a suspect and several children inside.

The flat is near the home of Hussain Osman who was arrested in Rome on Friday over the Shepherd's Bush attack.

One neighbour collapsed in horror as she realised her daughter was inside the flat being targeted. An African man in his late twenties was taken away.

Police also seized a man in Clapham as Scotland Yard continued to hunt the network behind the failed 21 July bombings.

Both suspects are being held on suspicion of involvement in the "commission, preparation or instigation of terrorist acts".

It brings to 20 the number of people arrested in Britain since the abortive attacks.

Police can hold them for up to 14 days.

A major police presence continues in London, with thousands of officers patrolling Underground and mainline stations. Last night a flat in Stockwell again became the focus of anti-terror raids amid fears that a third cell is planning to strike.

Police with sniffer dogs surrounded Morell House, a block of flats in Crossford Street, at around 5.30pm.

Officers told residents to get back into their homes as they approached one of the flats, which was occupied by a man, a woman and several children.

One neighbour described his horror when he discovered that his six-year-old daughter was in the flat that police were about to enter.

Ahmet Tokmak pleaded with officers to allow him to find his daughter, Merve, but was told to get back into his own home. He even rang 999 in a frantic bid to alert the police.
