Shay Given knows that if he can keep a clean sheet against Deportivo La Coruna at St James' Park tonight then Newcastle United have every chance of going through to the Intertoto Cup final, (writes Alan Oliver).

Graeme Souness's side were beaten 2-1 in the semi-final first leg in North West Spain seven days and a 1-0 victory tonight would be enough to take them through to a final with either Lazio or Marseille and the chance to get back into the UEFA Cup again.

However at the same time it's yet another pressure situation for the Republic of Ireland keeper who knows that if he does concede a goal, United would need two just to take the tie into extra-time.

Given, who will be making his 54th appearance in Europe for United, said: "We know what we have to do. One goal is enough for us to win it. We know we have the players in our side to get goals, but if that goal doesn't come until the 90th minute then so be it.

"We have to approach the game correctly, we cannot go all out from the start because we saw in the first leg that they have the players who can catch us on the break. …
