Trio on Their Bikes in Push for Charity

Three North fundraisers have cycled from one side of the country to the other to raise cash for Newcastle's St Oswald's Hospice.

David Taylor, Keith Seymour and Neil O'Brien pedaled more than 100 miles from Whitehaven, Cumbria to Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, to raise over pounds 422 for the Gosforth charity.

The three friends, who all live on East Avenue, Longbenton, Newcastle, first met through their three-year-old daughters, all pupils at Goathlands Primary School in Longbenton, Newcastle.

They made the decision to complete the coast-to-coast cycle after a New Year's Eve Resolution ( inspired by a couple of beers.

David, who works as senior chef at St Oswald's, was determined to keep to the pact and booked up accommodation for the trip the very next day.

David, 38, said he had been motivated to help the charity after watching first-hand the care and attention staff at St Oswald's provide.

He said: "Because I work at St Oswald's I know how rewarding and inspiring the work is that is done there. …
