A potential pounds 14bn bid for mobile phone group O2 has fallen through after the two companies behind the offer failed to agree terms, it was reported yesterday.

German firm Deutsche Telecom and Dutch telecoms group KPN were understood to have been in talks for weeks.

Deutsche Telekom, owner of T-Mobile, would have taken over the bulk of the business, further boosting its presence in the UK while KPN would have taken over O2's German operations.

But the bid is understood to have collapsed after the two companies could not agree on the structure of the deal.

New gender

Women's clothing retailer New Look has announced plans to expand into men's clothes.

It said following a successful trial, menswear would be stocked in 50 of its stores by Christmas.

Over the coming 12 months it will further expand its range to 150 stores, where the clothes will be sold alongside ones for women, teenagers, footwear and accessories.

New Look currently has 527 stores in the UK and 212 stores in France that trade under the name Mim. …
