JERMAINE JENAS is set to join Tottenham this week in a deal worth [pounds sterling]8.5 million - with striker Robbie Keane moving to Newcastle as part of the package.

Jenas - sent off at Arsenal in Newcastle's 2-0 defeat yesterday - is desperate to leave Tyneside and would welcome a move to White Hart Lane.

The 22-year-old England midfield player has been top of Tottenham's wish list since their failure to land Shaun Wright-Phillips from Manchester City and although their valuation falls short of Newcastle's, they believe that Keane's inclusion in a partexchange deal will persuade Newcastle to sell.

Keane - a close friend of Newcastle and Republic of Ireland fullback Steve Carr - was offered to Manchester City as a makeweight in a Wright-Phillips transfer.

But City opted to take Chelsea's [pounds sterling]21m cash for the player and Wright-Phillips wanted Champions League football.

Now manager Martin Jol and chairman Daniel Levy - who returns from a business trip to the United States today - will switch their attention to Jenas and the pair are confident they will get their man by the end of the week. …
