A card game novice is preparing to bluff his way to a pounds 100,000 fortune as he stars in a new poker-playing reality TV series.

Personal bodyguard Mark Alexander, 34, had never so much as played snap before he was picked for the Channel Five show.

But over the next nine weeks he will be coached by some of the world's best card sharps to take part in a string of tournaments.

In the final episode, he could be just a turn of the card away from winning pounds 100,000.

"I'd not even played a game of snap," said Mark, of Amble, Northumberland. "And like all the others, I'd never played any poker."

Despite never playing the game before, they will compete in a cash-prize tournament each week, before taking part in a high-stakes final.

And one of them could walk away with the pounds 100,000 pot.

Mark, whose past clients include Catherine Zeta-Jones and Kevin Costner, said if he wins the cash, he would give up security work to become a florist. …
