Bonny babies who won the hearts of the North East in our Baby Idol contest have been presented with their prizes.

Chronicle editor Paul Robertson gave the awards to the winners and runners-up you voted for at a ceremony in Gateshead's MetroCentre yesterday.

More than 1,700 tots entered the competition and had their pictures taken at the MetroCentre.

There were three categories: 0-9 months, 10-18 months and 19-36 months. When the phone lines closed we registered a massive 83,498 votes, up by more than 30,000 on last year.

Winners got pounds 500 of MetroCentre gift vouchers, a dream family holiday, a framed portrait of their winning photo and a Baby Idol 2005 trophy.

Paris-Marie Crawford won the 0-9 month category. Paris-Marie's mum, Hayley Lawson, 19, of Scotswood, Newcastle, said: "We are so proud of her. I'm over the moon she won.

"She's beautiful. She smiles all the time, has lovely brown eyes and is quite lovely. …
