Sven-goran eriksson is weighing up a first international start for Luke Young in England's World Cup qualifier against Wales tomorrow.

The England coach had been expected to turn to the experience of Phil Neville to replace his injured brother Gary at right-back in Cardiff, especially up against former Manchester United team-mate Ryan Giggs.

However, while Neville has been used by Eriksson in training over the past two days, he has actually started each session with Young in the right-back role.

The England coach has been considering the relative defensive and attacking merits of Neville, who has been playing in central midfield for Everton this season, and Young, a recognised right-back for Charlton.

Young, 26, only made his England debut as a substitute in the post-season tour match against the United States in May, before also coming off the bench against Colombia a few days later ( a total of just 18 minutes' action in friendlies. …
