Gateshead Thunder must complete their second double as a re-formed club if they're to take the play-off race to the final game of the season.

The Tynesiders travelled down to the capital yesterday to prepare for their match against National League bottom club London Skolars.

Gateshead gave the Skolars a harsh lesson at the Thunderdome in June when they cruised to a 52-18 victory, but coach Dean Thomas is expecting a much tougher game.

He said: "London pushed our play-off rivals Sheffield all the way last week and, after we lost at Blackpool, there's no way we'll be underestimating them."

"Our preparation has been good and being able to stay overnight means the players have no excuse if they don't produce a peformance."

Thunder's top-six chasing squad faced an early morning departure for the six-hour haul to the capital until supporters group Thunder Storm and an unamed backer stepped in.

Thomas added: "It was a great gesture from the supporters and another individual to donate almost a four-figure sum for what is one of the biggest games in this club's short history. …
