England are contemplating how to replace Simon Jones. Here, we assess the cases for Paul Collingwood and James Anderson:


FOR ( The inclusion of Durham all-rounder Collingwood would lengthen the batting and theoretically make Australia's job of dismissing the hosts twice in the match that bit harder, especially when considering the bad weather forecast. The 29-year-old has struck six hundreds and scored in excess of 1,000 first-class runs this summer and has shown the gritty characteristics required in tense circumstances throughout his five years as a one-day international cricketer.

AGAINST ( England's success over the past 18 months has been achieved with a five-man attack, a policy which allows plenty of options in the quest for wickets. However, Collingwood has taken only 20 County Championship wickets with his medium pace, which while reasonable, could not be considered front-line material.
