Mum Danielle Mount saw red when vital cash she drew from a machine was covered in purple dye - making it worthless.

The distraught 30-year-old drew the cash from an ATM in Middlesbrough, to go towards school uniforms for three of her children.

The mother-of-six withdrew pounds 70 in spoiled notes from the Link machine near the shops in Lealholm Crescent.

Twins Jack and Chloe, four, and their sister Megan, five, had faced the prospect of first day at Park End Primary School without new uniforms until mum was able to borrow from friends.

Danielle, of Penistone Road, Park End, said: "I spoke to people at the shops and nobody seemed to know who owned it."

And Danielle is not the only victim of the worthless withdrawals.

"Another woman got money out and it was covered in purple dye but I don't think she reported it," she said.

Efforts by the manager of nearby Booze 4 Us, Kevin Brown, to trace the owner of the machine also failed. …
