The inaugural National Aberdeen Angus Show at Westmorland Show lived up to expectations with an outstanding breed turnout parading before Canadian judge, Doug Robertson.

"The depth of quality in both the bull and female classes was most impressive and demonstrated the strength of the Aberdeen Angus breed in the UK," said Mr Robertson.

Leading the field of 64 cattle from leading herds throughout the UK was the three-year-old cow, Lady Croft Verice A089, by The Moss Fenton Y613, from Brendon Hayward, Wester Aldie, Rumbling Bridge, Kinross. But Brendon, a USA-based design engineer, could not be there and his mother and father, John and Kay Hayward, received the pounds 1,000 prize plus the Certified Aberdeen Angus Beef Trophy on his behalf.

Results: Two-year-old bull ( 1 Nithsdale Country Larder Ltd's Limeview Jolly Boy C380; 2 P C Stovold and Son's Rosemead Private C415; 3 Nigel Hammill's Tegsnose Eden C107.

Yearling bull ( 1 Robert Galloway's Cardona Edwin D263; 2 T A and P Johnson's Yearsley Primative; 3 Chris Page's Haymount Grandioze. …
