Czech Final Gives English Headache

Tonight's rearranged final of the Czech Championship has forced Newcastle into two changes for the first leg of their Young Shield quarter-final at Berwick (7pm) with their best rider around Shielfield Park, Josef `Pepe' Franc, among the pair on their way to Mseno for that Czech decider.

Franc's only second in his team's averages so the Diamonds must use rider replacement for him while they've booked Somerset's Chris Mills as a guest for their lower-rated Mseno-bound rider, Lubos Tomicek.

Berwick are also expected to be missing two regulars ( Adrian Rymel and Tom P Madsen. Although Rymel should also have been riding for the Czech title, he's the top-rated Bandit so they were allowed to book Hull's Paul Thorp as a guest even before Rymel was concussed in a crash in the Czech Extraleague on Wednesday.

But Rymel's blurred vision and headaches mean he'll also miss tomorrow's second leg at Brough Park (5.30pm), so Thorp's booking has been extended to both meetings. …
