Six art galleries in Jacksonville Beach and Ponte Vedra Beach are collaborating to celebrate artistry and the works of local and national contemporary artists Saturday during the Beaches Gallery Tour.

The participating galleries, from north to south, are: Chao Framing and Fine Art, the J. Johnson Gallery, Stellers Gallery at Ponte Vedra, The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach, Fairfax Gallery and Eclectic Galleries. The tour runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Most of the galleries are hosting featured artists on-site, and they're inviting the public to experience the art and meet the artists, who welcome the opportunity to talk about their work. For the public, it offers a pleasant cultural activity. For the artists, the event helps promote their art.

"It's especially good for an artist like me and the kind of work I do," said St. Augustine glass artist Tracy Womack of TraSea's Glassworks. "It's not easy for most people to understand how my work is made. After they see how it's done, they appreciate the work more."

Womack, who creates flame-worked glass sculptures of sea life and fantasy creatures, will discuss her work at Eclectic Galleries in Ponte Vedra Beach. To illustrate her craft, she will also bring some of her tools and artwork in various stages of production.

Fairfax Gallery is featuring the works of contemporary impressionist Ellen Diamond of Ponte Vedra Beach, who will demonstrate the painting techniques of her French and Tuscan landscapes as well as of the beaches and marshes of Northeast Florida.

The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach is hosting an open house with several special activities, including the screening of Most, a 2004 Academy Award nominated short film. Artist Lois Simon will introduce the film and lead a discussion on the film immediately following the screening. The film may not be appropriate for viewers under age 12. The artwork of Nancy R. Schultz is featured in the Cultural Center's gallery. …
