A maximum field of 26 looks assured for the totepool Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar on Saturday after 54 juveniles were left in at the confirmation stage.

Sir Mark Prescott is targeting the Cleveland track's richest race with recent Ayr winner Violette. The Observatory filly completed a hat-trick when taking the Group Three Firth Of Clyde Stakes in impressive style at the Scottish track nine days ago, for which she has picked up a 5lb penalty.

Signor Peltro could represent Henry Candy, having made a winning debut at Haydock Park on Friday.

Other interesting potential contenders include Queen Mary Stakes third Bow Bridge, Firth Of Clyde runner-up Gallery Girl and Cheap N Chic, a decent sixth in a similar event at Newbury earlier this month. First run in 1989, the six-furlong feature has guaranteed prize money of pounds 150,000 and has been won in the past by top-class horses like Somnus, Captain Rio and Pipalong.

Last year's race went to Mick Channon's Obe Gold, who broke the track record. …
