A disgusted mum today urged Teesside cemetery bosses to tighten security after cruel thieves plundered her son's grave.

Angry Di Robinson made her plea after discovering crooks had snatched mementos left at the graveside of her son Mark Burns on Sunday.

Raiders targeted the grave at Durham Road Cemetery, in Stockton, and made off with solar lights and golf balls - left by Mark's golf buddies - in the latest raid. Mrs Robinson said crooks have in the past taken Father's Day cards and home-made bracelets left by Mark's two young daughters.

Now she wants Stockton Council, which runs the cemetery, to step up security and stop crooks causing further heartbreak to families. Mrs Robinson, 63, of Carmel Gardens, Norton, said: "Things keep disappearing.

"It is sickening and has a devastating effect on the families. Trying to cope with losing someone is bad enough without having to deal with scum stealing from graves. …
