The Hand of Cod; Maradona Is Linked with Shock Move for Seaside Club Brighton

DIEGO MARADONA and Ossie Ardiles were today sensationally linked with a takeover bid for Championship club Brighton.

The wealthy Argentinian superstars are reportedly eyeing a major investment in the team if they win permission to build a new 22,000-seater stadium on the south coast later this month.

Former Tottenham favourite Ardiles, who starred as a player at White Hart Lane in the 1980s before returning as manager in 1993, was quoted as saying: "It is a possibility. We will have to see what happens. It would be great to come back to English football."

Maradona, now 45, is still best remembered in this country for his infamous "hand of God" goal which helped knock England out of the 1986 World Cup finals in Mexico.

Having made progress in recent months in his battle against cocaine addiction, Maradona is now said to be preparing to team up with Ardiles to invest in an English club. According to the reports in today's Brighton Evening Argus newspaper, Brighton were identified by Steve Perryman and Paul Miller - two Englishbased former team-mates of Ardiles at Tottenham - as an ideal candidate. …
