Volunteers Spruce Up Facility for Residents

They hauled in 60 plants, a truckload of mulch and 50 volunteers Friday to get the project done at Southside's Taylor Care Center. Members of the GE Business Credit Services' GE Elfun group even had time to sing and visit with many of the 200 elderly residents at the senior living and assisted-care facility at 3937 Spring Park Road.

GE Elfun group leader Chris Little said his company's 700 local employees do three or four volunteer projects a year, and the longtime senior home was the one they chose to spruce up the exterior and cheer up the residents.

"We thought we would do something at an elderly home," Little said. "We started looking around and saw this one had a definite need."

As volunteers planted bushes and landscaped in front, one resident cheerily told them, "You do good work."

Taylor activity director Teresa Deveraux agreed.

"It is awesome," Deveraux said. "They have literally pulled in a truckload of mulch, plants and the whole nine yards. …
