Miller's Sights on Goal for Cats

A rejuvenated Tommy Miller has set his sights on maintaining the impressive goalscoring ratio which helped forge a reputation as the Championship's foremost attacking midfielder.

The Wearsider, weighed down by the burden of expectation which loomed large following his summer move to Sunderland, is finally showing his best form in a red-and-white shirt.

And there is little doubt that a brace of vital goals in successive Premier League games have served to ease the pressure on a player desperate to make a success of his Black Cats' career.

"I think people saw from my celebration just how much that first Stadium of Light goal meant to me," said Miller, as he reflected on the second of two goals in two games for his new club.

"It was a relief to me to get it and it meant I had a much better weekend. My poor dad's been getting it in the neck this season because I hadn't found the net until Boro and now he's down the club with a great big smile on his face.

"It was a special feeling and a moment I'd dreamt of for some time.

"There's been a lot of pressure on me from family and friends ( they've been willing me to do well and when things haven't gone so good they haven't really known what to say.

"It's much easier when you've got something positive to talk about and the telephone was ringing all weekend!"

Miller guaranteed goals in double figures during a productive spell at Portman Road but if ex-Ipswich colleague Darren Bent has taken to top-flight goalscoring with impressive ease then his former team-mate has taken time to re-adjust to the Premiership.

An opportunistic strike on Teesside reminded the travelling fans of the proven predator available to Mick McCarthy this season and a poacher's effort against West Ham United further illustrated the point.

"The last 10 days have been good for me," said Miller. "Getting the goals has helped and, although I'm still a bit disappointed with my overall performances, they've given me some much-needed confidence. …
