Rewind; A Look beyond the New Release Shelves for a Film Worth a Second -- or Maybe Your First -- Look

You're going to have to get around to it at some point, so it might as well be now. Go rent Napoleon Dynamite (2004, PG), or catch it on cable -- it's become a pop-culture fixture, after all, as noted in a story elsewhere in this section about a decidedly non-heroic talking Napoleon doll. The ultra-deadpan movie is definitely not for everybody (we suggest you watch it with someone who already loves it) but its success is definitely heartening to anyone who roots for the underdog. And what an underdog Napoleon is -- a remarkably ornery loser, the gangliest, oddest high-school nerd in the greater Preston, Idaho, region.

As played by the remarkable Jon Heder (who's now, um, not so good in Just Like Heaven), the super-nerd goes through each day with his eyes half shut, his mouth half open, barking out a variety of catch phrases you'll hear if you hang around a teenager for more than, oh a few minutes.
