A mum is planning legal action against a hot air balloon company after a birthday treat for her daughter never got off the ground.

Janette Abdu, from West Boldon, is intending to take Ballooning Adventures based in Hexham to the Small Claims court.

Mrs Abdu, 43, paid pounds 300 for the trip for her daughter Melissa's 12th birthday.

But Melissa is still waiting for the flight after the firm cancelled nine times due to adverse weather conditions.

Mrs Abdu has taken action after the company refused to refund her the money but offered to reschedule the flight. She bought two pounds 150 tickets in June last year.

Mrs Abdu waited until April to first book the flight, which was cancelled, and she then tried every month until September but each time the company said the weather was too bad. She said: "This has knocked the shine off the present. It was for my daughter's 12th birthday and she has now turned 13.

"We do not want another flight now. …
