A man in a white Buick peppered a Southside street with rifle fire Sept. 30, then drove off without hitting a 24-year-old woman who lived there or her two children, ages 2 and 3.

But police didn't get too much help from the woman after she told an officer it wasn't serious because "he did not hurt or kill no one," according to the police report.

Officers called to a home on Brewster Road at 11:15 p.m. after shots were reported found four rifle shell casings in the street and several young children running around nearby. One witness said a man in a white Buick drove by and fired a "long gun" out a window before fleeing. When the officer told the mother the shots could have hit the children, she said the man only shot in the air.

Police said a man dropped the children off at the home, then returned a few minutes later with another man in the car, and that's when the gunshots were fired. A 30-year-old woman was standing in the doorway of a nearby home when the shots were fired, but wasn't hit, police said.

Following are the crimes and other incidents reported recently on the Southside , according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office:

A sleepy man who argued with a woman over her demand for gas money early Sunday in his apartment at 231 Mojave Court awoke fully a few minutes later when a knife was stabbed into his shoulder and the woman fled, police said. A neighbor gave the victim first aid after she heard yelling and cursing from the apartment at 12:45 a.m., and a city rescue unit arrived and took the man to Shands Jacksonville.

An 18-year-old Southside man was arrested late Oct. 1 on charges of grand theft of a gun, possession of marijuana, driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license after police stopped a swerving car in the 8000 block of Baymeadows Circle West and found marijuana and an open bottle of vodka inside, police said.

An officer saw a car swerve on Baymeadows Circle West at 10:06 p.m. and stopped it when it swerved back into his lane, police said. Police said marijuana seeds were found in the car's center console, while a look in the trunk found a plastic bag of marijuana, the open vodka bottle and a . …
