Cruel owner kept starving dogs in filthy conditions

A cruel dog owner who kept his starving pets in tiny cages has been banned for life from keeping animals.

These horrific pictures show how Paul Marshall left his seven dogs in filthy conditions without food or water.

A deerhound called Kola died from jaundice on the day she was rescued by RSPCA inspectors.

The disease could have been treated, but Marshall did not take her to the vet, even after she collapsed.

Marshall, 35, a bar manager at the Three T's pub at Swalwell, Gateshead, who kept his dogs at Bishops Road, Benwell, Newcastle, was visited by RSPCA inspector Sue Craig 16 times in two years but ignored all her advice.

At Gosforth Magistrates' Court yesterday he admitted nine charges of causing unnecessary suffering to three dogs and was ordered to pay pounds 2,394 towards RSPCA vet's bills, boarding costs and legal fees.

Magistrates gave him a conditional discharge for two years but handed ownership of his pets to the RSPCA and said he was not fit to look after animals ever again. …
