Blaydon Are Facing Their Cup Waterloo

Blaydon have received a plum home draw against Waterloo in the fifth round of the Powergen National Trophy, (writes Duncan Madsen).

With Tynedale, Darlington and Westoe all crashing out at the fourth round stage, the Crow Trees outfit are the only club still flying the North East's flag in the competition.

They will fancy their chances when they face the Liverpool club on November 5.

Despite Waterloo standing third in the National Division Two table, in-form Blaydon are determined to make the sparks fly in the build-up to the traditional Bonfire Night festivities.

Spokesman Jim Huxley said today: "Waterloo are a good side but we are pleased to be drawn at home and it gives us a chance."

It will be a tougher proposition than Blaydon faced in the fourth round at Broadstreet on Saturday.

Dan Clappison scored two tries and kicked six conversions and a penalty for a personal tally of 25 points as Blaydon cruised to a 61-7 victory. …
