Arguably the world's most famous fishing tackle business, Hardy & Greys has been making and selling fishing tackle for over 130 years.

The business has three strands: House of Hardy, Greys and Chub ( a specialist Carp fishing range. There is also a museum at the Alnwick factory showing the historic equipment.

High-profile fans of Hardy & Grey tackle include Chris Tarrant, Eric Clapton, and Ian Botham.

Current MD Richard Sanderson, 51, from Gosforth, Newcastle, explains the appeal of the firm's equipment. He said: "We keep on staying ahead of the game by developing new products, which fit in with what anglers are after. As with any sports product we adapt to what our customers will want.

"Hardy is known throughout the industry for its quality. The business was founded by brothers William and John James Hardy in 1872. As keen fishermen, based in Alnwick, the brothers decided to develop their own equipment and the company was born. …
