Alan shearer hopes to delay a hernia operation to battle on for Newcastle United.

I understand that Shearer has been battling away for the best part of a month, despite being troubled by his hernia.

And United fear that if Shearer does have keyhole surgery then he would be on the sidelines for up to a month.

My information is that Shearer and United are going to wait for the next international break ( there are no Premiership games between November 5 and 18 because of the World Cup play-offs ( before looking at the situation again.

Shearer admits that he has had problems, but that thing have not got any worse in recent weeks.

Certainly Shola Ameobi's two goals and performance against Sunderland yesterday have put a new slant on things, while Graeme Souness told me today that he expects to have Michael Owen back in action in Sunday's televised match with West Brom at The Hawthorns.

Shearer has had operations on hernias in the past, but has always been a quick healer from all his injuries ( apart from the really bad ones ( and the sooner he is put right the better it will be for United. …
