An elderly woman was robbed of her pension when her bag was snatched on Tuesday.

The 76-year-old was shopping in Boots on Kings Street, South Shields, at 2.30pm when a young man wearing a dark jacket grabbed her bag, which contained her pension. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Northumbria Police on (0191) 454-7555, ext 65144.

Sales up 14%

SALES of Metro student passes are up 14% compared with last year, according to the public transport body Nexus. The Metro Student Pass gives students unlimited travel in a chosen zone for pounds 4.60 a week.

Policing talks

A SENIOR police officer will attend a public meeting in Haltwhistle, Northumberland, next month to discuss local crime problems. Chief Supt Jim Peacock will meet residents at Haltwhistle Methodist Hall on November 10 to discuss plans for the future policing of the area.
