Women are being encouraged to look at contraceptive alternatives to the pill as Craig Thompson reports

Women are renowned for shopping til they drop to ensure they get the best buy in everything from clothes to holidays.

But they are far less choosy over a very important choice ( contraception.

Many are simply unaware of the latest range of birth control methods available and probably miss out on contraception which could better suit their health and lifestyle.

"Women tend to be uninformed when it comes to methods other than the pill, as people don't talk about them as much," says Rebecca Findlay, spokeswoman for the Family Planning Association (FPA).

"Women shop around carefully for most things in their life but when it comes to contraception they often simply take what is offered by their GPs, who are not family planning experts, or stay with a method for years even though their needs and lifestyle may have changed. …
