A feast of fun is being provided across the region to put people in the Christmas mood.

Cities, towns and villages are pulling out the stops to add a touch of special sparkle.

Here are some of the events planned:

November 18, town centre Christmas parade, 4.30pm; November 25, Christmas lights switch-on and official opening of ice rink, Gateshead Quays, 6.30pm; November 27, Gateshead Brass Band perform festive tunes, Baltic Square, noon-1.30pm; November 29, Artizani street theatre, Gateshead Interchange, 1pm-2pm; December 1-23, Christmas tree sales, Chopwell Woods, 8am-8pm, Santa and carols at weekends, 10am-5pm; December 2, chamber concert with music from Mozart, Schubert and Keith Morris, Caedmon Hall, 7.30pm, Tickets pounds 6 and pounds 5; December 3, art and craft fair, Blackhalll Mill Community Centre, 10am-5pm; December 3, Christmas workshop, Birtley Library, 10am-noon, free but booking needed; December 4, Dunston Silver Band perform festive tunes, Baltic Square, Gateshead Quays, noon-1pm; December 7, Christmas craft exhibition with Gateshead's Children's Choir, Gateshead Visitor Centre, St Mary's Church, Oakwellgate, 6.30pm, free; December 8, Jack Frost & the Ice Queen stilt walkabout show, Baltic Square, 4pm-4.45pm & 5.30-6.15pm.

December 10, Christmas family fun and games, Thornley Woodland Centre, Rowlands Gill, 10am-3pm, pounds 2 for children; December 10, Ravenswood Singers & Opera Live, Caedmon Hall, 7.30pm, Tickets pounds 5, under-16s pounds 3; December 10, Christmas workshop. Low Fell Library, 10am-noon, free but booking needed; December 11, making Christmas cards, Bill Quay Community Farm, 1pm-3pm, pounds 1; December 11, Yule logs and silver cones family craft session, Thornley Woodlands Centre, 2pm-4pm, pounds 3; December 11, walkabout street theatre, Gateshead Quays, 1pm and 2pm, free.

December 15-17, scary theatre show for three to eight year olds, Caedmon Hall, Thursday 1.30pm and 6pm, Friday and Saturday 10.30am, 1.30pm and 6pm,
