Every week throws up extremes in this job. At the end of last week, I am having a quiet dinner with my mate in Coco Mos when suddenly aa.

`Oh my god there's Ant McPartlin over there.'

I said to leave him be, he was clearly celebrating his 30th with a dozen family and friends and had inconspicuously taken the table in the centre of the room!

My mate kept pestering me for an introduction to Anta.

`I don't know him at all. Leave him be. It is his private time.'

Inevitably on these occasions someone does go over and ask for a mobile phone picture and, sure enough, I briefly weighed up the thought of knocking into Ant spilling his drink and getting myself in a national tabloid the next day!

But I am better than that and so is he, so once the first girls had gone over, we did the decent thing and sent over a bottle of bubbly just to say `happy birthday' and naturally Ant came across to thank us, as I knew he would! …
